Loch Leven Camp & Retreat Has So Much To Offer Guests

Variety is the spice of life, and camp life at Loch Leven is spiced very nicely with a variety of offerings.

Loch Leven Campus View nestled in the Mountains..

The surrounding mountains’ verticality is awe inspiring, but it also tucks Loch Leven into a comfortable and easily accessed location, close to airports and freeways – a getaway while not needing to get away too far for those in Southern California, while a very drivable destination for those who may fly in from out of the area.

It is about an hour and a half from Los Angeles, a little over an hour from Orange County, 40 minutes from Riverside and a half hour from Redlands.

It is a unique gathering spot, a natural treasure. It is a place to explore wooded surroundings and gaze upon craggy outcroppings, to exchange ideas, to learn new skills, to challenge oneself and one’s pre-conceived concepts. Guests leave renewed and refreshed, and often inspired with new ideas from experiences.

Loch Leven serves groups of all types and sizes, from 10 guests up to 122, from summer camps to adult retreats to family gatherings.

Accommodations are available to suit just about every taste.

On a hill above the rest of camp and retreat center, Campbell Lodge sleeps up to thirty guests in six bedrooms. If groups wish to “double up” in full-sized beds, Campbell can accommodate 34 guests.

While the lodge was built in 1928 (Campbell is the only remaining redwood lodge in the San Bernardino National Forest), this fully contained retreat house offers comfortable, well-lit, and spacious bedrooms, updated bathrooms, and a full kitchen for those who wish to prepare their own meals.

Campbell’s dining area can be sectioned off for a variety of meeting types and sizes. An impressive great room features a tall, broad stone fireplace and flexible seating arrangements. Integrated audio-visual equipment is available for presentations and Wi-Fi connects guests to the outside world when needed and even a private phone line. Chilly nights become comfortable with forced air heating. Cambell lodge offers the perfect blend of modern day convenience in a natural setting.

Downhill from Campbell Lodge, each of the ten cozy Cole Hospitality Rooms has two twin beds and an individual wall heater. Each Cole Hospitality Room suits those interested in a more motel-style setting with Room One being ADA accessible. One side of the building has easy access to parking for easy unloading and the other side overlooks the beautiful Mountain Home Creek. Each suite contains two bedrooms and shares a full bathroom.

Located between Campbell Lodge and Cole Hospitality Rooms are three cabins called Maus Cabin, Ares Cabin and Alder Cabin. Favored by all types of youth groups and those wanting a dorm-style setting, each of the three cabins sleep 12 guests on each side. The maximum number of guests per cabin is 24.. Each cabin features wall-to-wall carpeting, a wall heater, and a ceiling fan provide a comfortable space. One interior full bathroom serves each cabin.

Tent platforms are available for more outdoorsy sleeping where groups can bring their own tents. The platforms are spaced for privacy yet close enough to give a group reserving the whole area a feeling of togetherness.

There is a lot of outdoors to take in at Loch Leven Camp & Retreat Center. The entirety of the explorable area is 160 acres (about twice the area of a large shopping mall). Enjoy a variety of views from up high looking down upon meadow and creek and the valley beyond or enjoy the mountain view while lounging at camp or on the plenty of walking paths featured within and near.

Adventurous sorts can sway across the suspension foot bridge or take “The Leap of Faith” challenge (don’t worry, guests are strapped in safely and guided by trained facilitators), or they may climb to a unique view while taking on the Vertical Tree Challenge. A hike to a local waterfall is a highlight for many.

The mountains not only inspire a sense of adventure, a pleasant night’s sleep, and lofty thoughts, but also an appetite. Three homemade-style meals and a salad bar are available for all groups in the ample and well-lit 150-diner capacity dining hall in Stone Lodge.

Loch Leven’s talented cooks and friendly serving staff excel at meeting a variety of tastes and dietary requirements. Breakfast includes fruit, cereal bar, and juice in addition to hot food. Lunch and dinner include punch or lemonade and salad bar. Milk and milk substitutes are available for all meals. Meal service information can be found here.

Other options include snacks, s’mores, a juice bar, a hot chocolate, and cappuccino machine. Be sure to discuss your group’s special needs with the Site Director before arrival.

Additional meeting spaces suit a variety of group sizes. In addition to the dining hall, Stone Lodge has two rooms for gathering and the use of Wi-Fi.  Chapman Lodge conveniently and comfortably seats up to 75 people who, during colder times of the year, cozy up to the large stone fireplace.
