Slow Time at CGC

December is typically a slow time of the year at Community of the Great Commission Camp.

Normally we do not host guests in December, yet with the COVID-19 shutdowns, we have not been hosting our typical large groups for months and months.

It is a slow time.

Usually, we would be rushing to shut down camp for the winter, but this year we have been taking our time closing the cabins, shutting off water drain water pipes, and putting anti-freeze in P traps.

Claar House and Bobbitt Hall have already had the main heaters shut off with a few small electric heaters on which prevent any pipes freezing. We also cover items that are susceptible to rain and snow such as the three tent trailers used for summer staff housing which are now wrapped with tarps for protection.

Golf carts that are used around camp for maintenance and rapid transport during our busy season are parked in the cook shack to protect them from heavy snowfall. We won’t forget to fix the exhaust pipes that were damaged in last winter's storms.

The weather is projected to be clear and sunny for the next 10 days which gives us plenty of time to cover up, shut down, fix, and settle in.

Happy winter dear friends, we hope to see you in 2021.
