A one-bedroom house is available on site, and on-site living is a requirement of the position. Utilities are included and housing is provided by UCCR and not considered a part of compensation

Purpose

The Associate Site Director Program Trainee (ASDT) is variable hour, full-time position in UCCR’s comprehensive site management training program. The ASDT Program is designed to provide the employee with practical, work-based learning experiences in all major facets of successfully leading a UCCR-managed facility on behalf of the owner

A Day In The Life of an Associate Site Director?

  • Check in with the kitchen staff to see how the lunch shift is going.

  • Head to the office to meet with the Site Director.

  • Learn about how to prepare a site budget.

  • Troubleshoot a radiant heater and research pressure switches to find a replacement.

  • Eat lunch.

  • Meet with a contractor to bid an upcoming deck replacement.

  • Begin dinner prep with coworkers and create a healthy, delicious meal for 70 excited retreat participants.

  • Head home to your own private residence on-site after another challenging yet fulfilling day of training at a UCCR facility. 

Site Directors have an incredibly varied set of skills and responsibilities. As an Associate Site Director Trainee (ASDT), you can expect your days to be very similar. Learn all the ins and outs of the position while being mentored by a seasoned professional, before taking on full responsibility at a facility of your own. A strength of this program is an individualized training that leverages your strengths and addresses your areas of growth, with a mix of formal training and hands-on learning.


Position

UCCR is a premiere facility manager of non-profit camps, conference and retreat centers. If you have experience in or are interested in living onsite for this camp and retreat management training position, this is great opportunity in foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Note: this is not an activities programming position.

We are hiring an Associate Site Director Trainee to be developed in our facility and staff management systems. This training typically takes 6-18 months. Your promotion to Site Director is our goal but factors such as opportunity and training success are important.

  • Site Maintenance (building electrical, plumbing, carpentry, water systems, and grounds keeping)

  • Food Service (full commercial kitchen)

  • Housekeeping

  • Customer Service (youth, adult groups)

  • Budget, Revenue & Expense reporting

  • Staff Development: selection, training, reviewing, team building

  • Property owner and customer relations

Many job background types are applicable: onsite non-profit camp management, outdoor experience in camp, building maintenance management, and onsite camp food service supervision / housekeeping are just a few. Preference will be given to COVID-vaccinated candidates, those with strong facilities maintenance experience and experience living and working onsite in year-round positions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Age 25 minimum

  • The initial training is in Applegate, CA. Flexibility for subsequent relocations (CA, MA, MI) is required

  • COVID vaccination and fully boosted is expected

  • 5 years combined experience in camp food service; buildings, grounds, and equipment maintenance

  • Background checks conducted

  • Must be willing to live & work onsite at any of our locations.

  • Must have an insurable driving record

  • Demonstrated ability to make customers happy

  • Current lifeguard certification or ability to obtain is preferred

Areas of Functional Development and Required Competence

The ASDT is expected to develop competency in each of the following functions:

Customer Service

  • Meet the public and be supportive of and sensitive to diversity of people, cultures and program goals

  • Develop positive relationships with customer group leaders and members of the organization that owns the site

  • Maintain a friendly and supportive environment that facilitates and enhances the goals of the customers and program leaders

 Revenue and Expense Management

  • Provide general financial oversight for a UCCR-managed site

  • Develop and administer operational budgets in cooperation with direct supervisor and Administration functions including Accounting.

  • Maintain appropriate, accurate records and implement UCCR’s policies and procedures

  • Develop and manage major maintenance projects, as approved and required  

Marketing

  • Conduct tours for potential customer groups

  • Positively represent UCCR and the site to outside customers as well as customers that are considered to be an “owner group”

  • Participate in the development and implementation of site specific marketing plans, in cooperation with the Marketing Manager

Food Service and Hospitality

  • Purchase, prepare and serve food within health and safety regulations, codes and customer group dietary requirements. 

  • Develop cooking skills of staff; ensure staff have required food handling certification

  • Prepare for county health department inspections

  • Ensure housekeeping is carried out per the practices at the site 

Facility Maintenance Operations

  • Repair and maintain buildings and grounds within health and safety regulations, and codes; coordinate with supervisor, Administration and site owner, as appropriate

  • Maintain water, sewer, electrical and communications systems within health and safety regulations and codes

  • Provide land use and environmental stewardship

  • Interface with regulatory agencies such as the county health department

Human Resources

  • Hire, supervise, encourage, motivate, develop staff.

  • Conduct annual staff performance reviews

  • In consultation with Human Resources and Payroll, conduction staff terminations

  • Effectively delegate roles and responsibilities within site staff job descriptions

  • Within Paycom, respond to staff requests for clocking and other requests

  • Maintain appropriate, accurate records and implement UCCR policies and maintain compliance with local and state labor laws, as directed by UCCR

General

  • Communicate both verbally and in writing in a timely, clear and logical manner

  • Respond efficiently and effectively in a crisis; problem solve under pressure

  • Participate in and support the mission and goals of UCCR

  • Interpret and represent all major facility management matters to UCCR’s executive staff and members

  • Participate in professional self-development


Expectations

Expectations will be set by the responsible Site Directors (in consultation with the supervisor) under which the ASDT works. The effectiveness of the performance of the ASDT will be evaluated annually against those expectations.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to communicate with and provide necessary instructions to both staff and clients

  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to environmental and other hazards on the site

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds

  • Physical mobility to traverse difficult and uneven terrain

  • Ability to use or learn to use telephone, computer and office equipment

  • Ability to drive a UCCR vehicle

  • Ability to use site equipment and tools

  • Ability to use cleaning and janitorial supplies

Accountability

The ASDT is an employee of UCCR and is directly accountable to the Site Directors under which the work is being done. The CEO has overall responsibility for the Associate Site Director Program. As such, the CEO may be involved in ASDT assignments and performance evaluations..
