The main lodge sits on the edge of a grassy meadow suroounded by tall redwood trees

A camp in the beautiful Sonoma Mountain Range of Glen Ellen, Sonoma County, California for nonprofit groups of 30-90. (see location of site on map of California or get driving directions)

Located in Glen Ellen, California, Valley of the Moon is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills of the Sonoma Mountain Range. At the heart of the camp is a large grassy meadow bordered by stands of redwood, laurel and oak trees. The dining hall, cabins and swimming pool circle the meadow.

Valley of the Moon has a fascinating history. Originally home to the Pomo Indians, it is still possible to find arrowheads on the grounds. Later, the camp was a cattle ranch for many years. In the early 1900's, Sonoma County vigilantes utilized Valley of the Moon Camp. While you're at the camp, check out the snack bar - it's the original bar from the Sonoma Hotel (1847) and is on the Sonoma County Historical Registry. The bar was moved up to Valley of the Moon by the vigilantes in 1928. Later when the Spreckels family purchased the property, hunting parties included movie stars of the day - Clark Gable (Gable Cottage), David Niven, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Tom Mix, Charlie Chaplin and many more.

Enjoy hiking through acres of coastal redwoods, then play a ballgame in the large grassy meadow. Afterwards, take a dip in our sparkling pool before a night of singing around the campfire. Or let us prepare a picnic lunch for your hike to our neighbor, the Jack London State Park. You can enjoy the beautiful old stone buildings and museum, go horseback riding, or fish in Fern Lake. Other day trips can include a nearby ropes course, or the historic town of Sonoma where you can tour the Sonoma Mission, the Petaluma Adobe, and a special Pomo Indian exhibit in the old fort. Napa-Sonoma

wineries are also nearby. Sugarloaf State Park's pioneer hike is another popular day trip from camp (mountain climbing and repelling available).
